Chapter 4

After driving for more than an hour, He Gu finally arrived at Dasheng Film City.

This was his first time coming to this famed studio. If there was Hengdian1Referring to Hengdian World Studios. It is the largest film studio in the world. in the South, then there was Dasheng in the North, and the scale of this place was truly astonishing. It had become a popular tourist attraction in the capital, with at least two or three shows filmed there every day, attracting many tourists.

He Gu parked the car and called Xiao Song, whose voice sounded like he was madly busy as he told He Gu to wait for him.

Watching a group of tourists lining up to get in, He Gu saw many different fans dressed in uniforms and holding up items of support.

How young, He Gu thought to himself.

At this time, Xiao Song finally came, sweating profusely. He was especially embarrassed to see He Gu, so he apologized repeatedly. “He Gu-ge, here’s the work ID. You can bring the car in.”

“I’m not going inside. I’ll just give you his phone.”

“Ah, you’re not going in? Han-ge is shooting a commercial. Don’t you want to see it?”

“There’s nothing to see. Going in would just disturb your work.”

“No, it won’t. It’s actually quite fun. Go check it out.”

He Gu thought it was a bit odd. Why was Xiao Song being insistent that he take a look?

Xiao Song also realized that he seemed a little too eager, and said awkwardly, “You and Han-ge argued, right? Han-ge is in a pretty bad mood today. Why don’t you go in and coax him? If not… we won’t be able to work well.”

“I can’t coax people,” He Gu said matter-of-factly. “And we haven’t argued.” How could he have argued with Song Juhan? Talking back for two sentences was already the limit for him.

Xiao Song sighed disappointedly. “Drive carefully then.”

“En, thanks for your trouble.” He Gu patted his shoulder and turned around to get into the car.

He actually wanted to see Song Juhan, but he knew it wasn’t the right time. Meeting Song Juhan when he was busy and in a bad mood would most likely only make things worse. He might as well wait for Song Juhan to cool off and come looking for him.

Not long after the car drove out, his phone rang. It was from Xiao Song. As soon as he answered, he heard Xiao Song lowering his voice and saying with embarrassment, “He Gu-ge, Han-ge is angry and is telling you to come back.”

“Angry?” He Gu really couldn’t understand how Song Juhan’s mind worked. He said helplessly, “Alright.”

He Gu took a U-turn ahead, but right now was rush hour. A big traffic jam was starting, and the car moved at a turtle’s speed. Ten minutes later, Xiao Song called to tell him to hurry up. Twenty minutes later, he called again, already sounding like he was about to cry.

He Gu was also anxious, but it wasn’t like he could fly over there.

It took him more than half an hour to drive the seven or eight kilometers back to the film city. Xiao Song was waiting for him at the entrance. As soon as he saw him, it was like seeing a savior. Afraid that He Gu would go back on his word and scurry into his car, he said, “Ge, you drive in. I’ll show you the way.”

After seeing their work IDs, the security guards let them in. The two of them entered the film city along a very different road from the tourists.

He Gu looked at the panting Xiao Song and comforted him, “Don’t worry. Juhan’s temper is just like that. What happened to him?”

Xiao Song cried, “I don’t know. Han-ge often loses his temper for no reason. This time, I also don’t know what’s wrong. When I told him that you just handed the phone over and left, he got angry.”

He Gu also couldn’t figure out why, but it certainly couldn’t be because Song Juhan had specifically wanted to see him.

The car drove to a Republic-style street2ref image. The two men got out of the car, and Xiao Song led him to the mansion where they were filming.

They walked to the lounge, and then Xiao Song knocked cautiously. “Han-ge, He Gu-ge has come.”

“En.” A cold voice came from inside.

Pushing open the door, He Gu saw Song Juhan wearing a major general’s uniform, standing in front of the mirror and letting the stylist fix his belt. In order to make Song Juhan’s figure stand out, the clothes were deliberately wrapped a little tightly around him. Every single one of his curves was as perfect as a carving by God. Song Juhan’s mother was a world-renowned German supermodel of mixed descent. At net height, Song Juhan was ten centimeters taller than her. His legs were ungodly long, and he had inherited all his parents’ good looks and build. Some people in the world were just blessed by heaven.

Song Juhan turned his head around. On the bridge of his nose was a pair of black-framed glasses, setting off his high brow ridge and making his facial features appear particularly deep. His hair was all combed back behind his head, revealing his smooth forehead, which accentuated his high nose and sharp face. It gave people a kind of rigorous and mysterious tension that may break out at any time.

“Juhan.” He Gu nodded at him.

Song Juhan said, “All of you get out. I’m going to rest for a while.”

Hearing his words, the stylist and the make-up artist both went out. Xiao Song also followed out. He Gu hesitated for a while, but just as he lifted his foot, Song Juhan glared at him. “You stay.”

He Gu closed the door and walked to him. “What’s wrong? In a bad mood?”

Song Juhan took off his glasses and tossed them to the side. “Why didn’t you come in when Xiao Song told you?” Song Juhan hated wearing glasses because his eyelashes were too long.

“I was afraid it would disturb your work.”

“Bullshit.” Song Juhan pinched his chin. “You’re avoiding me, aren’t you?”

“What could I be avoiding you for?”

Song Juhan sneered. “Isn’t it because I mentioned Feng Zheng? You seem to be still interested in him.”

“We haven’t been in touch for so many years. This shouldn’t be regarded as interested.”

“Then why are you acting strange because of him?”

He Gu thought, “I don’t think I’m acting strange.”

Song Juhan raised his eyebrows. “You’re picking a fight with me, aren’t you?”

He Gu sighed. “Juhan, what do you want?”

“Don’t fucking talk to me in that tone as if I’m making trouble out of nothing.” Song Juhan pushed He Gu away, nearly pushing him to the ground.

He Gu straightened his clothes and sat next to him, quietly watching him. He didn’t know how to comfort people; he just understood Song Juhan. No matter what the cause was to the fire in Song Juhan’s heart, so long as he didn’t vent it cleanly, it would certainly make everyone upset.

Song Juhan was silent for a moment. Suddenly, he kicked over the coffee table, and facing He Gu, he yelled, “Are you fucking dead? Can’t you say something nice? Can’t you smile? I spend money for wh*res3Actual term used is “duck” (鸭), which is slang for a male prostitute who know better than you, what do I even need you for!”

He Gu’s heart twinged, and his lips quivered. The more Song Juhan was like this, the more he didn’t know what to do. He could only stay silent.

Song Juhan was so angry that he threw around different things.

He Gu hesitated for so long before opening his mouth to say, “Juhan, I was wrong. Don’t be angry.” He didn’t know where he was wrong though.

Song Juhan looked at him coldly for a long while then said, “Take off your pants.”

He Gu looked at him in surprise. This place was just a lounge, and there were people all over outside…

“Take it off. Since you can’t even coax people, you should at least learn how to let them cool down.”

He Gu hesitated for a moment. “Lock the door.”

Song Juhan locked the door smoothly, then looked at He Gu with his arms crossed in front of him.

He Gu took off his pants without expression.

Song Juhan strode up and pressed He Gu on the couch with his back towards him. As if he was worried about wrinkling his clothes, he simply pulled down the zipper, then started charging violently regardless of anything.

As he was banging into him, Song Juhan’s mouth was full of filthy words. “It’s a pity you didn’t do it with Feng Zheng back then. You’ve got nothing to compare to. I could’ve shown you how much better I am than him in bed.”

He Gu grit his teeth and dared not make a sound. His forehead was covered with sweat, and the rims of his eyes were red. He could endure the pain and the discomfort, but the shame and humiliation was especially tormenting to his heart. He tried to convince himself that he shouldn’t be bothered about it. He wanted Song Juhan’s company, so it was only fair for him to pay the price.

It was probably because of this awareness that Song Juhan never broke up with him.

Song Juhan had a lot of needs in this respect, especially when he was in a bad mood or under great pressure. He couldn’t smoke or drink, nor could he street race or travel. All the usual ways of relaxing were prohibited, so what he often did was exercise and s*x. However, he wasn’t promiscuous. For one, he hated getting dirty; second, he didn’t want to be taken advantage of; and third, his every move was being watched. He had been in the circle for many years. He never dated properly, but he had a few regular bedmates. He Gu was the one that stayed with him the longest.

And speaking of Feng Zheng, if he had never been there in the first place, then it wouldn’t have provoked Song Juhan’s competitiveness. He had to have He Gu in his hands. After so many years, Song Juhan’s vengeful, arrogant and competitive personality had not changed at all.

When Song Juhan was done venting, he wiped his clothes with some tissue and then fixed them. He Gu’s legs were soft, so he lay on the sofa for a long time, unable to move.

Song Juhan seemed to be in a better mood when he saw the mess He Gu was in. Pinching He Gu’s cheek, he smiled maliciously. “Did I f*ck you well?”

He Gu squinted his eyes at him and didn’t speak.

“I’m asking you a question.”

“Yes,” He Gu said softly.

“Very good.” Song Juhan leaned down and gave a very gentle kiss on the corner of He Gu’s lips. His words were just like the devil’s: “It was also pleasurable for me. All those I’ve f*cked before were younger and prettier than you, but only few of them have your charm. You’re also pretty gifted.”

He Gu closed his eyes and tried to get up, but he couldn’t muster any strength from below his waist.

Song Juhan put on He Gu’s pants for him, then slapped him on the ass. “Wait for me here, I’ll take you to eat delicious food in the evening.”

Song Juhan went to the mirror and straightened his clothes. Humming a melodious tune, he opened the door and went out.

He Gu leaned back on the couch, his fingers feebly zipping up his pants and fastening his belt. Such a simple action took him several breaths to complete.

He stared blankly at the ceiling, his heart and mind completely empty.

He knew he was being cheap, but it wasn’t like being cheap bothered anyone. He was happy doing it. Moreover he had already been cheap for years, and he was now almost thirty. He wanted to enjoy every minute and second with Song Juhan before he got tired with him. A person’s life was only a few decades, and he wanted to save some more memories. No matter how others lived or what others thought, he wouldn’t go against his feelings for any dignity.

He liked Song Juhan, so let it be.

After relaxing for a while, his limp legs got better. He went to the bathroom to clean up, then quietly waited for Song Juhan in the lounge. He was so tired from yesterday and from today that, while waiting, he fell asleep askew on the couch.

Sometime later, someone pushed the door open. He Gu woke up with a start. His brain buzzing, he looked at Xiao Song in a daze.

“He Gu-ge, why are you still here?” Xiao Song looked at him in surprise.

“Juhan told me to wait for him.”

Xiao Song said in embarrassment, “Han-ge has already left and went to have dinner with the crew. I stayed behind to pack up.”

He Gu closed his eyes and said wearily, “Mm, I’m going back then.”

“He Gu-ge.” Xiao Song couldn’t bear it. “Han-ge was so busy in the afternoon… He was so busy, he forgot. I’ll treat you to dinner.”

“No need. You should go home and rest early.”

“He Gu-ge…” Xiao Song sighed. “It’s been hard on you.”

He Gu didn’t say anything. He grabbed his keys and left.

He wasn’t so pitiful yet that he needed a big boy’s sympathy.
