Facing their ignorant look, Yu Qiu was depressed. When he was cultivating in the Xuanyang Sect, every person he could see, whether an elder or an inner or outer disciple, who didn’t try to acquire a rejuvenation talisman? Aside from the many other powerful ones, everyone would also carry a rejuvenation talisman.
Therefore, he didn’t expect that the life of a rogue cultivator outside of a sect would be so difficult. The rejuvenation talisman was commonplace in the cultivation world, but these people didn’t even have one. It looked like they had never even heard of it.
“Rejuvenation talisman, rejuvenation talisman…” The hunchback with the pockmarked face recited these words over and over again, his eyes seeming to have seen a life-saving straw. “With the rejuvenation talisman, can Laoda be saved? Rejuvenation talisman, rejuvenation talisman, where I can find the rejuvenation talisman?”
Gradually, these three men all focused on Yu Qiu with wolf-like eyes.
Well, it was hard to get off once you’ve ridden a tiger.1骑虎难下 (idiom) – It was impossible to stop halfway.
Yu Qiu took a deep breath. He was a little depressed, but he didn’t reject them. If he didn’t help them, would he just watch this man die in front of his old man?
“Then do you have some white deer paper?” Yu Qiu asked. “And some inkstick.”
inkstick wasn’t as common as the cinnabar required in fire talismans, but it still belonged in the category of commonplace things in the cultivation world.
As soon as Yu Qiu’s words fell, the young men hurriedly pulled off their waist pockets, untied them, then dumped all of its contents onto the ground.
Yu Qiu went over and carefully rummaged through the stuff. inkstick and cinnabar were common things. Soon enough, he quickly found them and then set them aside.
As for the remaining white deer paper, it didn’t matter if it was only in the ninth grade. As long as it had some grade, it was rarer than having no grade at all. Yu Qiu turned over a pile of stuff, then over another pile, and soon turned over the last pile. If they did have some white deer paper, this was their last chance in finding it.
With Yu Qiu’s actions, the hearts of the men were already rising up their throats, as if they were gonna jump out anytime.
Soon, Yu Qiu pulled out a piece of paper from the last pile. Although a little wrinkled, after turning it over and over again, Yu Qiu was finally satisfied. He picked it up and then sit it aside.
Then Yu Qiu took out a writing brush from his waist.
“… Since you have everything we need,” said Yu Qiu. “I can save him.”
The three men were ecstatic.
But then Yu Qiu said, “Ten low-grade spirit stones.”
“What?” The three thought they had heard wrong.
“Ten low-grade spirit stones,” Yu Qiu repeated. “If you want me to do it, this price is cheap enough.”
This was looting a burning house2趁火打劫 (idiom) – To profit from one’s misfortune! The three people didn’t want to think about whether Yu Qiu was even worth this value. They were already shaking with anger from this sentence. But since they were the ones asking for help, they had no right to be angry.
It was just… Ten low-grade spirit stones… Ten low-grade spirit stones!
All of their stuff was already piled on the ground. Where were ten low-grade spirit stones? This kind of price wasn’t worth mentioning for regular cultivators, but for low-level rogue cultivators, it was already sky-high.
When the three were about to give up all hope, Yu Qiu smiled again. “You can owe the money first, but don’t forget to pay back.”
When the three first listened to this sentence, they were a little confused.
Yu Qiu found some flat ground and then laid down the white deer paper in front of everybody’s eyes, and the inkstick was ground well. He gently dipped the brush into the ink, and it was immediately dyed blue.
When Yu Qiu raised the brush over the the white deer paper, the ink didn’t drop.
Because there was still one more problem.
A cliche problem–Yu Qiu was only in the second level of Qi Refining. And drawing the rejuvenation talisman, just like the fire talisman, should be done at least in the third level of Qi Refining.
And this “should” meant that when any level below the third tried to draw, the probability of success would not be high. Usually, when people of the second level attempt to draw it, only one out of ten would succeed. However, Yu Qiu was different. He was called the number one seal cultivator, and his mastery of drawing seals was naturally above that of an ordinary seal cultivator. When drawn by Yu Qiu, this simple talisman that originally had one level chance of success could have its chances raised to eight levels.
But that was before.
One thing Yu Qiu couldn’t forget was that, in this life, his fortune was terrible.
Even when the odds were eight levels high, was it really worth trying when his luck was so bad? But what else could he do but try?
Yu Qiu smiled.
Since he dared to take on the responsibility of saving someone’s life, he had an idea.
