Novel Translations Disclaimer

Lizonka is not a native Chinese speaker, and she uses different machine translation services and a Chinese dictionary to translate the text. Although she does her best to ensure her translations are close to the text’s original meaning by consulting native speakers, never assume that the final result will be a 100% accurate representation of the text.

Lizonka also aims to depict the author’s intentions in a way that is easy for English readers to understand, but all the while trying her best to maintain the original mood and tone. To achieve this, she will have to employ a degree of artistic license. Loss of original context is sometimes inevitable, but she will try to keep it to a minimum.

If, however, you notice a very jarring mistake in Lizonka’s translations—a blatant incorrect use/explanation of a term, an idiom/pun totally missing the point, or anything that just hurts the eyes of someone who actually has a good grasp of Chinese—then you may contact her about it. Lizonka may defend her translation choice, but she is also open to corrections and suggestions.

Moreover, she translates the novels as she reads them, so she does not know anything about them beyond their most recently translated chapter. She may revise previously published text as she encounters new information when she deems something to be inaccurate or inappropriate.

Lastly, she should not be held accountable for the views of the authors. The authors’ views are their own. She may or may not agree with them, but she will still continue to translate. She may, however, drop the translations at any time the author’s views become too unbearable.

Co-Translators

Lizonka currently has one co-translator: Hillary, who helps her in translating the Years of Intoxication novel. In translating the YOI novel, Lizonka and Hillary work together to make their translations consistent in regards to the writing style and the terms used throughout the novel. Hillary is a native speaker, so in editing, she will correct any inaccuracies she may find in Lizonka’s translations. It doesn’t work the same way around though. Lizonka’s editing of Hillary’s translations will be limited to simple spelling and grammar errors.
